Yoga and Mindfulness for Well-Being and Stress Management

Welcome to the peaceful landscapes of Lapland to explore the fundamentals of yoga and mindfulness! This course provides a hands-on introduction to yoga, its various styles, yogic philosophy, and mindfulness practices. Held in Rovaniemi, surrounded by breathtaking Arctic nature, the course includes outdoor sessions to fully immerse in the healing power of nature.
The course aims to help you familiarize yourself with yoga as a powerful tool for managing stress and improving your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. You will explore how yoga can benefit you as a teacher, learning techniques such as breathing exercises, asana practice and relaxation methods that can be applied in your daily life and classroom. The course includes lectures, group work and discussion, but the main emphasis is in practising yoga and mindfulness.
You don’t need to be a yogi to attend the course; interest in yoga, meditation and self-improvent is enough!

Themes
- Introduction to Yoga and its benefits.
- Asana- pranayama (breathing) and meditation practices (adjusted to participant’s level)
- Explorations of different yoga styles that support both physical and mental well-being: getting to know hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga, yin and restorative yoga and yoga nidra.
- The role of Yoga and Mindfulness in stress management.
- Yoga and Mindfulness in school – how to use the tools to improve student’s wellbeing and to bring calm and presence to the classroom.
- Therapeutic power of Lapland’s wilderness:
Mindfulness walks in nature – enhancing awareness and presence in the outdoors.
Forest meditation and sensory awakening – deepening well-being through nature connection. - During cultural evenings, we get to know each other’s cultural background and professional context.
Objectives
Understand the principles of yoga, its benefits, and its application for teachers’ well-being.
Learn and practice yoga poses, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques for personal and classroom use.
Develop healthy strategies to manage and reduce stress.
Acquire methods to help students relax, focus, and stay energized through yoga- and mindfulness based activities.
Discuss and exchange ideas about the role of yoga in education in an open and supportive environment.
Promoting intercultural co-operation.
Intercultural learning, establishing contacts with potential partners for future cooperation and exchange.
The course meets the Quality standards for courses under Key Action 1 (learning mobility of individuals.
